SOCIAL EVILS IN NIGERIA

There has been a great increase in moral decadence in the country. Many Nigerians, especially youths desires to get rich quickly and love for excessive materialism without commensurate effort .

Bribery is the order of the day while embezzlement of public fund is prevalent nowadays. This development has become a matter of constant discussion on radio, television and news-paper . These social evils are now smelling like a bad sore.

CAUSES OF THESE SOCIAL EVILS IN NIGERIA

The causes of these social maladies can be traced to the societal values of our people . Nigerians do not cherish hardwork and perseverance any more .

Again, an average Nigerian is greedy, they want to possess as many houses as possible and have the best flashy and costly cars.

This has led to many Nigerians especially the youths to engage in various forms of social evils like computer fraud ,armed robbery , corruption and embezzlement. people want to acquire wealth in a crooked means since material acquisition speaks louder good virtues and values such as hardwork and honesty . Another cause of social evil is the low level of discipline and morality in our various homes and families. Most parents are not honest, they encouraged their children to acquire wealth by all means, no matter how crooked such means are .

The Nigerian government , at various levels does not help matters. Top government officials embezzle public funds at will . Policeman collect bribes from drivers , smugglers and even from armed robbers.

REMEDIES TO ALL THIS SOCIAL EVILS

I strongly believe that there must be a way out .For us to eradicate this social evil there must be a change in our hearts. Once our heart gets this right message, l am sure that all the social evils will be eradicated.

The Nigeria society should change it's value system by placing honesty and hardwork above any other consideration .The government should adopt viable reward system and punishment for offenders.

Governmental authorities should treat corruption and embezzlement the same way as armed robbers. Government should reward honestly and query ill gotten wealth. Government should create enabling environment for small and medium scale enterprises to thrive as this creates job for teaming youth .

Unemployed youths are purveyor of social evil. The religious leaders and faith based organisation must preach against this vice and show good examples . Religious leaders must stand up to tell the political leaders the truth at all times .
