OVIM WOMEN'S IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION:DORCAS MINISTRY

By Ezinne Lolo Ihuoma Kate Kanu VP2 OWIA

Tabitha, popularly known as Dorcas, was an early disciple of Jesus as mentioned in Acts of the Apostles (Acts 9:36-43)

She lived in the poor ancient city of Joppa on the coast, about 35 miles west of Jerusalem.

She was full of compassion, good deeds, and helping the poor. She was selfless in giving and made charity a passion. The life of this woman is packed with valuable lessons, all of which are important. She was an inspiring example of living out Jesus' life of a humble servant.

It was upon this foundation that OWIA and our fore leaders established and incorporated Dorcas Ministry into her program . Her ministry and act can be said to be synonymous with the OWIA because such acts of helping the less privileged is widely known to be practiced and sustained through the years by our noble association. We reach out to as many less privileged groups as possible in and around our Ovim. Such groups include motherless babies' homes, orphanages, leprosy settlement, physically challenged homes, churches, and indigent women in Ovim.

Ocl branches(women's wing) under the umbrella OWIA donates to Dorcas ministry. OWIA, in turn, distributes the same to the appropriate quarters. Inyom ovum and ndi nne are not left out in generous donation, which includes essential commodities and materials such as food items, clothing, toiletries, and unused wrappers. Women donate with joy during our homecoming. Year 2016 records are yet to be broken, having the highest donation of wrappers about four hundred and five(405) pieces of six(6) yards and other items. Member do not give because they have in abundance but for love of God and joy of giving. It has been a healthy competition. We pray that God will bless our labour of love and good work of faith'(1thess 1:3)

It is our earnest prayer that God will help us sustain this vision, for it is blessed to give than to receive,Luke 6:38.

We call on our sons and daughters who want to key into this program to support us to reach out to the less privileged around us. We will not fail to mention that in 2010, Dr Chukwuemeka Oluoha of Ahaba Imenyi donated 10 pieces of wrappers in support of the program and the association.
